The WOTSO Adelaide Refurbishment is a complete reimagining of a former bar into a bright, open, and highly adaptable retail environment purpose-built for a premium furniture showroom.

What began as a dark, enclosed hospitality tenancy has now been transformed into a clean, contemporary, and commercially versatile space aligned with WOTSO’s flexible leasing model.

This project required more than a simple refresh — it demanded a full strip-out, a structural rethink, and a new architectural identity that would allow the incoming retailer to curate an elevated customer experience.

Full Internal Demolition & Make-Good Works

The first stage involved completely removing the previous bar fitout.

Our team undertook a full internal demolition, including:

  • Wet areas, bar fixtures, and all services
  • Internal partitions and built-in seating
  • The multi-layered timber ceiling, previously home to integrated lighting, HVAC ducting, and acoustic treatments
  • All plumbing, electrical, and hydraulic services connected to the bar and its toilets

Once cleared, we restored the tenancy to a clean base-building condition.

This included extensive make-good works to walls, ceilings, and structural elements — a critical step in preparing the space for its new retail purpose.

Exterior Transformation: From Solid Brick to Double-Height Glazing

One of the project’s most significant architectural interventions was the removal of the old external brick façade.

In its place, AMB installed double-height aluminium-framed glazing, delivering:

  • A strong, modern street presence
  • Abundant natural light
  • Clear visibility for passing foot traffic
  • A transparent “invitation” into the retailer’s world

This single design decision reshaped the entire identity of the space.

The shift from a closed brick frontage to a fully glazed elevation created a visual openness that supports premium merchandising and improves customer engagement from the street.

Floor Restoration & Internal Renewal

With demolition complete, attention moved to the floor slab — previously marked by plumbing penetrations, bar fixtures, and toilet footprints.

Our team prepared, repaired, and restored the concrete floor, giving the tenancy a clean, level surface suited for retail layouts and customer circulation.

A full repaint of all internal walls and ceilings followed, unifying the interior and elevating the sense of scale. The newly refreshed shell now feels:

  • Significantly brighter
  • More spacious
  • Calm, cohesive, and retail-ready

This simplicity is intentional — the environment acts as a neutral canvas that allows furniture pieces to take centre stage.

A Flexible, Retail-Ready Space with a Modern Commercial Identity

The combination of structural demolition, façade replacement, and interior make-good has resulted in a space that is:

  • Bright
  • Contemporary
  • Flexible
  • Operationally adaptable

The new tenancy aligns seamlessly with WOTSO’s vision: high-amenity environments designed to accommodate diverse commercial users without compromising on style or functionality.

For the incoming furniture showroom, the finished space offers a blank canvas with extraordinary potential — a stage set for visual storytelling, product curation, and elevated retail experiences.
